All,
News of Today
- Friday 13 was a good day at Lake E. A temperature of -29C, sunshine and virtually no wind allowed for progress in various activities.
- At site D1, further work on the rig was conducted, the driller’s and science shacks were supplied, last holes in the platform were plugged, the ripped tarp was stitched etc.
- The dozer has started to clean the ice pad D1 from the snow drifts that accumulated during the last storm (up to 2 m high) . This activity had immediate impact on rising freeboards. Besides, the Honda snow blower was employed for the first time, aiming at cleaning the areas between the containers, with limited success though (friendly spoken).
- In the camp, construction of the 16th core box was finished, allowing for 800 m cores to be retrieved and stored. Additional wood is available, but the physical properties lab not any longer can be used as a carpenter workshop but now has to be equipped with MSCL whole-core device.
We are getting close to set the casing, immediately followed by coring. Not only Olaf and Jens, who will leave us by helicopter on Monday or Tuesday, are looking forward to see the coring happening before they leave ...
Cheers for now
Martin
