News of Today (based on Email from Olaf and calls with Olaf and Doug)
Things are moving to and at Lake E, supported by good weather (no wind, few clouds, -40C):
- Meanwhile, 9 containers have made it to lake, more are expected to arrive soon.
- The 8 sledges that finally will form the basis for the drilling platform have been pulled out of the containers; so, construction work has started.
- One of the now empty containers was used to store the liners; they look good, none (!) of them became broken.
- The frostfighters of DOSECC have been tested; they work properly so far.
- Also the heatable container for core storage was tested and runs fine.
- It is planned that the core storage container and the laboratory container will be positioned in a way that allows for short transport between core logging and final storage.
- An inspection of the D1 pad showed significant progress in freezing, however, as expected, another day is needed to freeze the water completely that has been spilled yesterday.
Let´s hope that weather in the next days keep calm, thus allowing for comparable progress at Lake E
