News of Today (based on a call with Olaf and different Emails)
- At Lake E it became crowded today. The helicopter made it to the lake, with Doug, John, Jim, Chris, Anders, Chico und Pavel. In addition 3 staff members of Gutov joined the flight, including a second cook (good news!). Everybody has found a bed (see attachment). The helicopter also delivered the EBA pumps, which were on the same flight from Moscow, thus giving the team more flexibility to proceed with the ice thickening work. Besides, many little things such as antennas, snow fences, lamps, will support future activities.
- On the ice there was not much to do today, since the huge amounts of water spilled on the pad yesterday first have to freeze completely.
- Both the Vestechot and one of the two bulldozers left the camp to support the convoy that has left Pevek on Monday (Feb. 2) to enter the crater - so, it seems they are close!?
- In Pevek, the remaining party (Grisha, Catalina and Dietmar) will continue to support the Lake team and get things prepared for the next operational steps. Important are the core boxes, but also to get the CPS cargo still in the Pevek customs released and sent to the lake, in particular the bamboo poles and the Kawasaki Mules.
