here some "News of Today" (based on an email from Olaf in addition to those from Chico):
Field work and weather
- The ice roads from the camp to D1 and further to D2 are "flagged" every 250 m
- Ice thickness measurements do not show much increase
- The weekly reports (to the public) and some news for the ICDP web page will be sent today
- No precipitation, calm but cold
Gasoline
- Victor, Gutov´s "right hand" at the lake, will give the party 50 L of gasoline. This is sufficient for the next few days, though of poor quality. The group still needs additional gasoline from Pevek. Chico has reported, that at least one barrel (200 l) will go with the next flight.
- I wonder, why there is not enough gasoline provided by Gutov. Tom, can you please check how much gasoline should be at Lake E at this stage (the ice strengthening work was already planned for Dec. 08)
Chico´s activities
- Chico plans to join the next helicopter flight, which hopefully will take place on coming monday. The lake E party, on the other hand, suggests that Chico, even if allowed to join the flight, stays in Pevek to make things moving as successfully in the last days. I think the field party is right, but somebody may have arguments why Chico should fly - please let us know.
