Despite a number of repairs today, the night crew and the day shift managed to drill about 50 meters with nearly complete recovery. The rock is now less fractured and much easier to drill. We reached a bottom depth of -488 m blf.
Last night and once today the drillers penetrated open voids in the rock, the second one logged 1.9 m in length. Jerry really noticed this one as he watched his mud levels suddenly drop in the pipe. The bottom of this void was loaded with weather clays and grus.
Repairs were made today to the latch head, the mud mixing pump and the small wire line needed replacement.
Weather today was reasonable with temperatures around -17 and not much wind, despite yesterday's forecast.
