Climate Detectives: Searching for clues in the Arctic

The El'gygytgyn Drilling Project as the Cologne Childrens' University 2010 Field Research Program

What do diatoms have to do with the climate? And what do colour variations in layers of sediment tell us? The children of class 3b from the GGS Manderscheider Platz school in Cologne were active under the Cologne Childrens' University from February through April 2010 as field researchers. In several lessons they took a closer look at the El'gygytgyn Drilling Project in order to answer these questions. They discovered that climate research is a broad field - and that the planning of such a project requires many other skills!
